Speech & Language Pathology
(Speech Therapy)

Our Speech and Language Therapists are specialists in communication and swallowing disorders, and cognitive problems. They assess, diagnose and develop a programme of care to maximise the communication and swallowing potential of people referred to us. This work also involves direct contact with care givers and family members.

What we do

We offer a comprehensive range of services for children and adults, as in and outpatients including:

  • management of feeding and swallowing difficulties in children eg with cleft palate or neurological deficits
  • acquired language impairment
  • communication problems e.g. following stroke, neurological injuries or diseases
  • management of stammering
  • eating or swallowing disorders
Treatment programmes may include: communication therapy, providing communication strategies and advice on best methods of communication, assessment and advice on communication aids for acute or long term problems, assessing and managing swallowing disorders, advice on feeding infants including positioning, oral and facial exercises to promote safe swallowing and improved articulation for speech, education of caregivers and family, and advice on supported communication.
