What does a Registered Nurse do?

The focus of attention for a Registered Nurse is the patient. RN’s promote health, prevent disease, and help patients and families cope with illness. When providing direct patient care, they observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress in patients; assist physicians during surgeries, treatments and examinations; administer medications; and assist in convalescence and rehabilitation.

Like Physicians, RN’s can choose to specialize in a particular area such as – Cardiac Care, Critical Care, Diagnostic Imaging, Dialysis, Emergency, Employee Health, Geriatric, Home Care, Hyperbaric/Wound Care, IV Therapy, Mental Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Operating Room, Orthopedic, PACU, Palliative Care, Pediatric and Substance Abuse.

What qualifications and experience does the hospital require?

• Graduate of a Registered Nurse Education program recognized by the Bermuda Nursing Council.
• Current CPR certification.
• Minimum of 1 yr nursing post education experience.
• Ability to work independently yet share information, skills, and expertise with peers.
• Stable and adaptable temperament.
• Effective written, positive verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.
• Current registration with the Bermuda Nursing Council is required.
